So we all do look forward to a day off or for the gym goers, a cheat’s day. I know this isn’t in the most encouraging of posts especially coming from a blogger looking always towards keeping desserts and cakes simple and low on the calorie count if that is ever possible.
So for days when you don’t count the calories and look forward to a cheats day in the kitchen, there is nothing easier, quicker and more satisfying than “churros”. The latest sensation to hit the the dessert market and making everyone go weak in the knees. The best part of it is the simplicity of the recipe that completely surprised me as much as its heavenly taste. If you can afford the calories, do try this at home or else take a day off and cheat on this one. Its worth it
1 cup water
2 tbsps regular white sugar
½ tsp salt
2 tbsps vegetable oil
1 cup all purpose flour
Icing sugar for dusting
Melted dark chocolate for dipping ( optional )
1.In a small nonstick saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt and oil. As soon as this comes to a boil, turn the heat off and place on a platform to cool down.
2.Pour in flour all in one go and stir until mixture forms a ball.
3.Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Using a piping bag, with or without a nozzle (my enemity with piping bags is still on if you read my previous posts, so I stayed off it ) place dough ball into the piping bag and pipe out long strips into the oil and fry until golden brown and crisp.
4.Take them off the oil and drain churros on tissues or paper towels to drain the excess oil.
5.Once cool place on a plate to serve. Dust with icing sugar or dip in melted chocolate or perhaps some nuttela 😀
Best served warm and fresh just out of the pan Perfect for those looking for a quick whip dessert fix .
Have a lovely week ahead 🙂
